River Shannon Events and Festivals 2019

There are numerous summer events and festivals taking place around the towns and villages on the Lakelands and the River Shannon. Whether you are travelling with friends or family there is something for everyone. Let’s take a look at what’s going on for the rest of the Summer on the River Shannon.

 

Féile Brian Ború 17th – 21st July 2019

The festival celebrates the life and legacy of Brian Ború, Ireland’s greatest High King in the beautiful towns of Killaloe and Ballina. A variety of fun activities for kids and adults including historical guided tours, workshops, a fireworks display over the Shannon, Art and Craft exhibitions, music and street entertainment. A Taste of Lough Derg  August – September 2019

A Taste of Lough Derg is a summer long food event taking place in villages and towns on the shores of Lough Derg  in counties Clare, Galway and Tipperary from the last weekend in August until the last weekend in September. A Taste of Lough Derg returns for its sixth year, this time in September to link in with the celebration of Ireland’s food and drink with ‘Taste the Island’. Enjoy BBQs, cookery courses, chocolate making, beekeeping, cheese-making tips and tastings too. Restaurants involved will be providing tasting menus with local produce. Find out more here.

Quest Adventure Series September 2019

Brand new for 2019, Quest Lough Derg is the latest addition to the Quest Adventure Series. Race around some of Ireland’s most iconic waterways, kayak on majestic Lough Derg and run along the banks of the mighty Shannon. Cycle through country roads, quaint villages and sprawling forests.

IWAI Lough Derg Boat Rally 6th – 13th July 2019

Preparations for the 44th annual Derg rally are well underway with another action-packed and fun-filled week on the Lake.  The theme this year is Magical Water Wonderland. The Lough Derg Boat Rally will pass through Dromaan, Terryglass, Black Lough and Dromineer. A series of water events and activities will take place at each location. Check out IWAI for more details.

Carrick Water Music Festival 10-14 July 2019

The Carrick Water Music Festival takes place over five days. A mixture of music and art, something for all tastes – opera, classical, jazz, country music, and workshops in art, literature and film! Enjoy the river amenities of Carrick-on-Shannon. Book your tickets at the Dock Arts Centre.

That Beats Banagher Festival  21st – 22nd July 2019

An annual festival focused around the River Shannon and the rich history of the town of Banagher. Each year the festival includes events of historical and cultural significance, workshops and demonstrations, and leisure events on the Shannon. With live music alongside the river, Saturday evening concludes with a fireworks display. Sunday is packed with events on the Shannon, including Wakeboarding, Zorbing, and open Canadian Canoeing. Two Provinces Triathlon & Kidathon – 12th – 13th July 2019

Taking place on the Lanesboro/Ballyleague border to Connacht/Munster the Triathlon comprises of 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run. A Kidathon, suitable for ages 8-15, includes a 100m Swim, 5km cycle, 500m run.  For more info see here.

 

 

Rooskey Heritage Festival 22 – 28 July 2019

5th Annual Festival taking place on the Roscommon/Leitrim border that will showcase traditional music and crafts as well as using The River Shannon to it’s fullest potential for a range of events. For more information check out their Facebook Page.

 

Scariff Harbour Festival 1st – 4th August 2019

The Scariff Harbour Festival includes a varied programme of activities taking place by the harbour with arts, music entertainment and water based activities including boat tours, angling displays, canoeing and kayaking. It is very much a family-focused event with a Family Fun Day held every year.

TriAthlone – Athlone: 07 July. A triathlon held in Athlone each year comprising of a swim followed by 20km cycle and 5km run. www.triathlone.com

Lady of the Lake Festival – Irvinestown: 11 – 21 July. A festival based on a mysterious lady who was know to glide over Lower Lough Erne.
