Athlone Castle, Co. Westmeath

Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly
Although not a castle, the monastic site of Clonmacnoise has three high crosses, a cathedral, seven churches and two round towers! The monastery was founded in 548- 9AD and become a major centre of religion, learning, craftsmanship and trade by the 9th century.

Portumna Castle, Co. Galway
Portumna Castle is situated on the shores of Lough Derg. Built in the 17th Century the castle became the main seat of the de Burgo family for over 200 years. The ground floor of the castle is open to the public.

King John’s Castle, Limerick
Between 1200 and 1212 King John’s Castle was planned and built. In the following centuries it was repaired and extended many times. King John was the brother of Richard the Lionheart, associated with legends such as Robin Hood and the Knights’ of the Round Table.
The castle boasts cutting-edge audio visuals, 3D models, and discovery drawers all combine to help you to delve into the Castle’s history.
