Commence your cruise at Banagher , explore the shops and restaurants which are less than a 5 minute walk from the marina, stock up with your provisions before boarding your cruiser by shopping at the local big supermarket. Take the heritage trail around the town with plenty of interesting buildings and facts. If you are spending the night you have the lovely choice of Flynn’s Restaurant and the Brosna Lodge offering tasty food, have a pint of the local beer, Bo Bristle, in some of the pubs and enjoy the Irish session and craic in Hough’s pub which is definitely worth a visit.
Cruise to Shannonbridge and enjoy the first night of your boat holiday with a meal in the romantic setting of the Old Forte Restaurant. Then enjoy an after dinner drink in Killeen’s or Luker’s pub, great traditional pubs with entertaining evenings. Next port of call with be the famous world Heritage site of Clonmacnoise , stop off and explore the site by taking a tour and watch the audiovisual ,before you head back to the boat stop off at the shop and visitor centre for a browse at some local arts and crafts.
Continue to Athlone taking in the wonderful landscape and the tranquillity of the waterway, it will be here you will encounter your first lock , but don’t worry all the locks on the Shannon are operated by lock keepers. Pop into Sean’s bar for a quick drink , the oldest pub in Ireland which is conveniently located at the lock . Athlone has an abundance of shops, restaurants, pubs, shopping centres and great boutiques you will have difficulty choosing where to go on this romantic boat holiday.
If you fancy some pampering continue to Hodson Bay which is just located on the lower end of Lough Ree, get a treatment at the hotel or just relax in the hotel which overlooks the harbour. Just on the opposite side of the lake is the lovely Coosan Point and Killinure Marina and for a special treat have dinner at the Wineport Lodge and Restaurant, the Wineport has mooring facilities on the lake so it makes for a perfect evening before heading on your return journey to Banagher.
