Hire a boat & cruise the River Shannon – it’s the ultimate ‘staycation’!

A boating holiday is the ultimate 'staycation'!

It’s that time of year when most people are looking forward to, or making plans for, their summer holidays or short breaks. Travelling abroad might not hold the same fondness in the current climate that it normally would but you still want to make those holiday plans.

A ‘staycation’ or holiday at home provides the perfect chance for a getaway.

With an estimated 11.2 million tourists visiting our shores in 2019, we are  lucky to have Ireland as our staycation destination!

A boating holiday on the River Shannon is a unique and memorable experience. There is so much on offer that it can be hard to fit everything in!

Exploring towns & villages, sight-seeing, leisure activities, water sports, or just sitting back and taking it all in from the comfort of your deck.

For anyone who has never hired a boat before, then see our beginners guide to a boating holiday in Ireland blog or visit our FAQ page for more information

Read on to find out why we believe a boating holiday is the ultimate ‘staycation’!

Exploring those landmarks you’ve always wanted to see

All along the River Shannon, the Hidden Heartland’s region is teaming with towns and picturesque villages steeped in history and heritage. Famous landmarks, castles and museums are just waiting to be explored. For example,  Clonmacnoise, Portumna Castle, Lough Key Forrest Park and Limerick Castle to name but a few!

Now is the opportunity to explore Ireland in style! Cruise to your chosen destination, moor your hire boat, step ashore and explore at your own leisure!

No hassle at the airport!

One of the biggest advantages of holidaying at home means you don’t have to worry about luggage allowance, forgetting your passports or going through airport security! Here at Silver Line Cruisers we even provide free parking at our Marina!

You don’t have to worry about visas and you won’t need a special licence to drive one of our cruisers. We are very safety conscious however and there is certain criteria such as minimum age and tuition. You can find more information in our FAQ’s page.

Outdoors activities galore

Hire bicycles, explore walking trails or hikes, go fishing or choose from a vast selection of water sport activities from sailing, canoeing, paddling and swimming. Or perhaps you’d prefer to just stroll around the quaint villages and historical towns to soak up the local hospitality.

We’ve put together a list of activities  North of the Shannon or South of the Shannon to help you decide what you might like to do!

Al Fresco dining!

Enjoy your dinner on deck with views of the River Shannon as your backdrop. Sip a glass of wine on board while watching the sun go down.

Take in the nature, the flora and fauna that can be found all along the banks of the river Shannon. It is truly a unique and calming experience and the perfect way to relax after a day’s exploring.

With so much to explore, see and do, it’s no wonder that a boating holiday is the ultimate staycation for all the family! You’ll make memories that will last a lifetime.

Here at Silver Line Cruisers we have been hiring boats for over 40 years.  Our comfortable cruisers are suitable for small and large groups and can be hired from a minimum of 3 nights upwards. You can book online by clicking here or get in touch if you would like more information.
